Not Bad...

Yesterday was spent in the pack, fighting for positions. It was too flat yesterday to suit me. Danny, David and I finished in the pack. Today, there are more climbs, so I will try and get in a break. I think eighty of us are tied for 12th, so I need to get off the front.

"The food and the accommodations for this race can be considered to be five-star compared to the “stuff” we received in the Czech Republic."

You get what you pay for, so, Grant, if you judge the whole country based on the experience you had is very very narrow minded.
Honestly, and another point...ehm, first, CZ is a country in CENTRAL EUROPE. It differs immensely from its eastern neighbours..( Ukrainians are so eager to immigrate here that there are thousands coming each year).
Theft is a problem everywhere but it is in a "normal" way, I would compare it to the US (except those small communities where people dont lock their doors). Well, here they do, they lock a car, people cheat, but get caught. And to presume something like this is incredibly ridiculous to someone knowledgeble ab. Europe. Good for you you are 17 and it is your first time.
YOur boss must also big US traveller (maybe his purse got stolen in Salvador but you know, all countries are bad exc. US, right?)
I dont read blogs and dont comment on them, I got here bc of my american boyfriend who is a keen biker and once biked a looot.
Anyway. I guess thats all. Sorry, I had to comment.Linda CZ
BTW Bush is coming to Prague next week and I bet you anything he wont be unhappy about accomodation nor food.
Honestly how can you say you are proud of wearing your country´s jersey? People are dying bc of this country every day. Geez, I didnt want to go into this, I am not an activist but you are another stupid American patriot where, at home, everyone smiles, loves dollars, smiles again but prefer not to see the dying faces of people in an UNnecessary conflict.
Whatever, such people like you, full of naive idealistic crap who have blinds over their eyes, make Europeans laugh.

Good luck on the final 2 stages Grant.

By the way, speaking of narrow minded, who forgot to give that woman that posted her medication? She is one very upset person. Is that the typical response you are getting from the European women? Hahaha. It's hard to be successful & popular isn't it?

Go Hawks!

Grant,
It seems like Linda CZ has a problem. You are who you are and we are all proud of you. Your time is coming in your trip to Europe, so be ready. Your Dad is so excited to be with you and we wish you and your family well. Sami and I talk about you all the time. Stay vertical. Jim C

You know that if it hadn’t been for a dumb, movie actor president here, you’d still have Soviet tanks parked in Wenceslas Square.

And as for “dumb,” please read Jean-François Revel’s l’Obsession Anti-americaine wherein he notes that his French countrymen haven’t learned anymore about us than when he wrote his first book on us 40 years earlier. France isn't the only country that's dumb about us.

People dying because of us? For years we were losing tens here and there over the years and then 3000 in a matter of hours……

Cool off lady and think…say at U Fleku….

This isn't a political blog, it's so a friend can reflect on his experiences. If the food tasted like shit and it made him appreciate home then so be it, let him tell his friends and family about it. If you have something to get off your chest do it somewhere else

Never mind the comments, your time in hills is comming. Get in a break and give it your best. Have a great time and keep us up to date on the out-comes of your adventures. Getting warm here at home and climb repeats up the snake in the afternoon are not much fun. So enjoy.

This is no place to present a political argument. Grant, this blog is about your experience traveling/riding through Europe. Your honesty and integrity shine through in every word you write. People who don't live in the United States may not be able to understand nor appreciate the opportunities & goods that are offered by our great country. Your comments were not a put down of the CZ Republic, just an accurate description of your short experience in that country. Grant, focus on “getting off the front” and GO! Love, Aunt Jen, Cousins Jess & Nate

Hey guys, I really dont think I have a problem.
I may sound mean but that doesnt mean thats who I am.
BTW actor presidet? Dont be kidding me. Your president at the end of the war consented to giving CZ under the sphere of Russian influnce.
It is easy to justify war, you all pray, you all smile...I looooove Americans...
I m going to France for two months in June, dont worry, I heard from my friend that people at the post didnt believe Thecoslovauquie exists.
Anyway. I guess that´s all.
Linda

I mean Tchecoslovaquie really doesnt exist, but they usually think it is exists more often than Republique Tcheque.
I mean, actually, it is impressive you are not saying Czechoslovakia..
I heard so many times in US...Or: Do you have a TV? A computer?
And other extremely interesting questions.
But thats ok.

Thanks for recommendation of the book.
But french anti-likeness of US has sligtly different reasons...They were such an important country for centuries and now...?I read they want to give around 7 000 dollars to immigrant families to go back home (can you imagine doing this with Hispanics? they will come back by river for their regular social dose).
I think that people here, usually educated and urban, like US. On the other hand, village people are...
But yes, US is great and if other country was so powerful, would they act better? Probably not.
Well, I really want to visit California in the coming years, and I am sure I ll be oh-ing tourist. I hope thats fine with you:-)
Well, anyway,
howgh.

Us Americans (mostly from Bakersfield on here) are coming here to uplift our friend that is accomplishing more in his seventeen year old life than a lot of us will our entire life and especially more than you will by spending your life attacking someone on a CYCLING blog. Yes anyone can look at this page and post. But, if you really don't have anything better to do with your life, then I pity which ever country you live in and I am sorry to that country that it has created a person such as yourself. Please if you don't have anything to say about cycling, don't say anything. It is funny how you talk about America yet you want to come and visit, NO THANK YOU, Please stay where you are. But, if you must come, most of us here are from California, I am sure there are a few of us that would give you a GREAT welcoming party when you come to visit.

TEAR THE LEGS OFF EM GRANT! AND MAKE SURE ALL THE OTHERS SEE THE USA JERSEY AS YOU GO BY!
PS. I was riding the other day and it just came to me. All you have to do to win is...RIDE FASTER!! Who would have thought? It is so easy!

Cant wait till you get home. Be safe

My name is Janz. I met Grant Van Horn at the Peace race. I crashed a week before so I could not ride. Anyway I do not blame Grant for saying the food was shitty. Because all race food is shitty. I did a spanish race and at dinner ants were crawling on the table and stale bread. If you know anything about racing you would know that.
What was up with the Bush thing? It sounds as though you wanted to attack a Amerikan cause of the government not about the racing, you know? Sorry about this about this I need to get off my chest. Good luck in Europe!

hey, I am really sorry for my excessive outburts of nonsense comments. I used it as a way to relax while I was spending 12 hours a day over books...I didnt even read after me...Very bad - but at least I admit it.
Grant, have great cycling.
I dont know much ab. cycling so this is really not a place for me.
Even though I ll be where Tour de France is going through this summer.
